Back on track

So it's been about 5 weeks since my knee injury and FINALLY it's back to normal. Who knew it would take that long? Geez.

Tonight I tried the treadmill. Honestly I dread the treadmill. It's so BORING. Seriously...just walking on a machine. That is dumb. But I did it for 30 minutes. I didn't jog just yet because I'm sort of afraid the pain will come back. So I just walked a quick pace and put the machine on some random program that had huge inclines and then flat.

And the good news is I had no pain.

Knee

Ugh...my knee still hurts. And it's swollen a little.

Fred did his second triathlon yesterday in Ellensburg. He did great, just under 1 hour 30 minutes. It's pretty motivating to go to a race and watch. There are so many different age groups and people of all sizes. It gives me inspiration that I can actually do it.

It's also frustrating to watch with an injury. I wanted to ride my bike or go for a swim but my knee just hurt too much. So I guess the best thing is to just rest and ice it until its healed and then try again.

Day 5 - C25K

Day 5 - No running for me.

My knee is messed up pretty bad. Yesterday I could barely walk. Dumb. I'm sure it's just because I don't know how to run. The tendon is probably pulled. So I iced it, and am resting for a few days.

Since I'm not giving up yet, I decided to swim today. Now swimming I LOVE! I swam 700 yards and could have kept going. Plus my knee didn't hurt a bit. It feels good to do something I love so much!

Day 4 - C25K

Pain already?

Obviously I'm doing something wrong because my right knee is already in pain. It's the inside part on my knee near the knee cap. I've looked online and it sounds like runner's knee but seriously how can that be after running just 4 times.

Well this is what my footprint looks like:

My arch is super high. This also means my foot rolls out and my knees don't really cushion my steps very well. I have arch supports inside my shoes for this but maybe it's not good enough for running.

So should I go get a pair of running shoes that are made for someone with feet like me? Or should I keep going the way I am and hope I don't injure my knee? Does the right shoe really make a big difference?

Day 3 - C25K

Ok...day 3...not so bad.

Today I did my jog in the morning. It was perfect temperature and so quiet. The first jog seemed easy, I could even keep a conversation so I wasn't completely out of breath. Then I thought the second would be bad but it wasn't. It just seemed easier today. Maybe it was because it was early this morning and I wasn't already exhausted from the daily grind. And now I feel energized.

We'll see if it was just a fluke. Next week the jog is a little longer.

Day 2 - Couch to 5K

Still hate running.

I don't even think what I do can qualify as running. It's more of a slow motion jog. I'm sure from the outside I look like I'm on the last leg of a marathon but in reality I've only run for 60 seconds. That's right, just 60 seconds. Isn't that sad?

Couch to 5K plan Week 1:
Day 1 - warm up walk for 5 minutes, jog 60 seconds, walk 90 seconds (do this 8 times)
Day 2 - rest
Day 3 - warm up walk for 5 minutes, jog 60 seconds, walk 90 seconds (do this 8 times)
Day 4 - rest
Day 5 - warm up walk for 5 minutes, jog 60 seconds, walk 90 seconds (do this 8 times)
Days 6 & 7 - rest

Sounds easy, huh? Oh you're laughing now but I dare you to get off the couch and try!

Seriously today I almost quit after the second jog. It's not that it's painful, it's just hard and I get tired so fast. Despite doing zumba twice a week, and a strength class once a week, I'm apparently still out of shape. Ugh. This sucks. Someone please tell me it gets easier.

Running

I HATE RUNNING! I do. I don't understand how someone can "love to go for a run". What? I honestly believe I can not run. I just don't know how. I feel like every step is like a lead foot just pludging along. I can't do it.

I am not an athletic person. When I was younger I was always the last to be picked in gym. I nearly failed gym in high school because my butch teacher couldn't understand why I couldn't run 1 mile under 10 minutes. I'm serious. She wanted to give me an F! For something I just can't do.

Anyway, now that I'm getting older and my blood pressure is creeping up and I'm gaining a few pounds I know I have to do more cardio. Running is one of the best exercises for cardio. So I thought I could conquer it.

I can't.

I told Fred I will try for two weeks. I'll stick to the plan. If I still hate it, I'm never doing it again.

Wish me luck.

Camping 2011 - Taidnapam Park

This campground is on Riffe Lake between Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Rainier. It's very woodsy, with gigantic Douglas Fir trees. Definitely rates high for scenery. On the downside though, the fishing wasn't that great and the campsites are way too close together. Our camper doesn't have curtains...and we could have definitely used some. Plus the "neighbors" stayed up late and were not considerate of others. That's ok, we payed them back when our kids got up at 6am! Ha! That's what they get!!!

Since we were so close to Mt. Rainier, we took a quick day trip to the park. Mt. Rainier is 14,400 ft at it's peak, the tallest in Washington State. As you can see, it's still quite snow covered. There was plenty of snow still on the ground. And the waterfalls were flowing beautifully.

By the way, this was the kids first trip to a National Park!

Nothing

Why is it that I can think of absolutely nothing to post here? I want to. Honestly I do. I had an overwhelming urge to post something. And here I am with nothing to say.

I swear my life isn't this boring.

Guess I'll just post some pictures.
