Birthday Wishes

So I've decided for birthdays (other than kids) that I'm not buying anymore crap. I'm not going to spend hours thinking of some unique gift for the person who already has everything. Then just turn around and get a gift card because I can't think of the perfect gift. Instead, I've decided we'll do something a little more meaningful and a lot less stressful. Auntie J is up first since her birthday was yesterday.

Julaine chose Project Linus for her birthday donation. That's right. We're making donations in the name of the birthdayee. Love it. Anyhoo...here's a little about Project Linus.

On Christmas Eve, 1995, an article titled “Joy to the World” appeared in Parade Magazine. It was written by Pulitzer Prize winning photo-journalist, Eddie Adams. Part of the article featured a petite, downy haired child. She had been going through intensive chemotherapy and stated that her security blanket helped her get through the treatments. After reading the article, Karen Loucks decided to provide homemade security blankets to Denver’s Rocky Mountain Children’s Cancer Center, and Project Linus was born.

Project Linus is a non-profit organization with a two-fold mission.

• First, it is our mission to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers.”
  
• Second, it is our mission to provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity for interested individuals and groups in local communities, for the benefit of children.

Julaine chose Project Linus for her donation because when my neice was in the NICU she received a blanket from this organization. And she still loves it today.
