Resolutions

I don't know why we wait until the new year to start resolutions. Maybe it's that 'clean slate' feeling we all have on January 1. I usually don't make resolutions because I fail to keep them very long. I remember one year I resolved to stop biting my fingernails. Gross, I know, but I couldn't stop then and I can't stop now.

But I'm mid-life now so I think I'm old enough to make a resolution (or two) and keep them. So here goes.
  1. Make a resolution and keep it the whole year!
  2. Exercise 4 times a week for 1 hour.
  3. Give more and take less.
I don't want to go overboard so I'll just do these three. That's enough. The most important is definitely number 2. I don't know how I'll find that much time. Maybe less time on Facebook? But I have to do it. Since turning 35, my blood pressure has slowly been creeping higher and higher. I don't know if it's stress or something else at this point but aerobic exercise is the best treatment for it. I've also had several bouts of chest wall syndrome. If you've never had it, be thankful because it feels like a heart attack. That's what I thought was happening. But the EKG was normal and the dr checked some other things and determined it is not my heart. Nevertheless, it's scary and painful. Also a first, my cholesterol numbers are creeping towards 'this is not good'. Mostly the HDL (good cholesterol) is very low. And in case you didn't know, aerobic exercise is the best thing you can do to increase your HDL. So with all that said, I have to start exercising more.

My exercise plan so far:
  • Zumba once a week
  • Salsa once a week
  • Wii cardio twice a week

It's a start. Wish me luck!
